Masterclass 2023

The PIC Social Innovation Lab launched its Masterclass Sessions for social enterprises in February 2023. These sessions aim to provide social innovators with a comprehensive understanding of various industry verticals. So far, more than 680 social entrepreneurs have benefited from these sessions, and the initiative is attracting more entrepreneurs.

Sessions were held on the following topics in the Masterclass Series:

Leadership & Partnership

The first session of the Masterclass Series, conducted by Ms Sonia Garcha (Director of YouthAid Foundation), focused on “Leadership and Partnership”. During the session, Ms. Garcha discussed the challenges experienced by founders and co-founders and provided insights on how to form productive partnerships.

Finance Management

During the second session, which focused on Financial Management, Ms Shagun Thukral (Doctorate, CA, and CFA) led the discussion on accounting principles, financial terminologies, and the interpretation of financial statements the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement.

Human Resource Management

The third session was conducted by Ms Shalaka Gundi (IAF Certified Professional Facilitator), who discussed the importance of the Vision and Mission of an organisation, People Management and Self Leadership.

Company and Legal Compliance

The fourth session was conducted by Mr Hemant Kelkar (Founder of VCounsel and co-founder of Startup Legal), who discussed Founder Agreements, Employee Contracts, Data Privacy and Tax Compliance.

Startup Funding for Entrepreneurs

The fifth session was conducted by Mr Gireendra Kasmalkar (Founder Director & CEO of Ideas to Impact, Lead Investor and General Partner at Pentathlon Ventures), who discussed When to raise outside capital, fundraising options for entrepreneurs, key components of the term sheet and how to perform company valuations.

SWOT Analysis

The sixth session was conducted by Mr Jayesh Talpade (CEO of Acumen Business Consulting), who discussed the role of SWOT in business planning, applying SWOT to design strategy, defining goals and objectives to support system and implementing initiatives to ensure growth and development.

Business Modelling Canvas

The seventh session was conducted by Mr Anirudha Modak (Founder and Principal at Guru on Tap Consulting), who discussed how to identify and communicate key elements of a business model: Customer Segments, Value Proposition, Channels, Customer Relationships, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partners, Revenue Streams, and Cost Structure—financial planning and modelling.

How to Make an Impactful Pitch Deck

The eighth session was also conducted by Mr Anirudha Modak, who discussed the basics of structure and format of the deck- introduction/title slide, problem statement, solution (products/service), market, business model, adoption strategy, competition, competitive advantage, team, testimonials, ask.

Marketing & Branding

The ninth session was conducted by Nandita Khaire (Principal Consultant at RemBrand Consulting and Director – Business & Corporate Strategy at UJA), who discussed Identification of marketing budget, basics of marketing and sales strategy, introduction to digital marketing, tools for social media marketing-mail chimp, Canva, tracking and understanding user metrics.

Logistics & Supply Chain Management

The session was conducted by Mr Nitin Ghatpande (Supplier Quality & Development, Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt), who discussed designing supply chain, managing demand and supply and inventory management.

Export & Import

The session was conducted by Mr Kanchan Kulkarni (Director & COO Vishwaguru Infotech Pvt. Ltd.), who discussed introduced the process of export and import and the documentation to the attendees.

Effective Investment Strategies

The last session in the Masterclass 2023 series was conducted by Dr Avanti Doshi (Director Nirmiti Investment Advisors LLP) and Mr Jaydeep Doshi (Director Proinvest Wealth Pvt. Ltd.) and covered General Financial Management, What is an Investment Policy Statement, Importance of IPS and other relevant topics.
