I am delighted to inform you that this year we have received 200-plus applications from 21 states across India for the 11th National Conference on Social Innovation (NCSI) 2023, making it a truly national conference.
We invite you for the NCSI 2023 to be held in person at YASHADA, Pune, on November 17, 2023, from 10am to 6pm. The National Conference on Social Innovation is the annual flagship programme of Pune International Centre (PIC) and will feature presentations from 18 selected Social Innovators/Finalists from three categories – Urban, Rural and Tribal.

A. National Conference on Social Innovation (NCSI) 2023

Pune International Centre’s 11th National Conference on Social Innovation (NCSI) 2023 will be held on 17th November 2023 at YASHADA Auditorium, Baner Road, Pune from 10am to 6pm.
Selected Social Innovators/Finalists from 3 categories – Urban, Rural and Tribal – from 21 states across India will get an opportunity to present their Social Innovations. The event provides a platform for Social Innovators to showcase their innovations before a tailored audience comprising CSR representatives, impact investors and incubators.
Among the speakers at this year’s National Conference on Social Innovation will be Dr. Abhay Firodia, Chairman, Force Motors; eminent scientist and PIC President Dr. Raghunath A Mashelkar, FRS; and eminent economist and PIC Vice President Dr. Vijay Kelkar.
Mr. Mayur Datar, Chief Data Scientist at Flipkart; Ms. Juthika Patankar, Retired Secretary to the Government of India; and Mr. Pradeep Lokhande, Founder of Rural, will be the Speakers and Chairpersons for the Urban, Rural and Tribal Innovation sessions, respectively.
The Co-chairpersons will be Mr. Amit Bhargava, Associate Vice President at Birlasoft, Mr. Ram Iyer, Trustee and Administrator, Swadhaa School, and Mr. Anil Kulkarni, Strategy and Leadership Coach, for the Urban, Rural and Tribal Innovation sessions, respectively.
Applications for NCSI 2023 closed on September 15 and we have received over 200 applications. Interestingly, the majority of applications came in as the deadline approached. The three most prominent domains for which applications were submitted are agriculture (17.3%), education (15.3%), and livelihood creation (12.8%). Furthermore, the majority of applications were received from the rural category, closely followed by the urban category. Notably, this year, the highest number of applications are from male social entrepreneurs. (See diagram below)

Social Enterprise Mentoring Programme (SEMP)
The Social Enterprise Mentoring Programme (SEMP) 2023 with the mentee cohort of 9 Social enterprises is over and all the mentoring meetings will now be on request basis. Social Innovation Lab started the Social Enterprise Mentoring Programme 2023 (SEMP) initiative on 9 January 2023
On September 16, 2023, Mr. Amit Bhargava, our mentor, visited the Digiswasthya Telemedicine Centre in Bhiwadi, where he interacted with one of the current mentees, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, from our cohort.
Shared Service Centre - Social Enterprise (SSC-SE)
Over the past couple of years, SSC-SE has helped and encouraged 130+ social enterprises by providing various services and it continues to grow. The Shared Service Centre is an initiative to support social enterprises with different services needed to foster entrepreneurship.
The services provided are: Digital Marketing, Export-Import Documentation, Legal Compliance, 2D/3D Animation Video, Accounting and Audit, Website Development/Revamp, Intellectual Property Rights, HR Consulting, Facilitating Funding and Pitch Deck, Brand Building, and CSR Fundraising Support

C. Upcoming Policy Papers
|
|
|
A policy paper, ‘Support Systems for Social Innovation in India’, is proposed and work on the same is in process. The PIC SI Lab team is working on it along with Dr. Vishal Gaikwad and Mr. Tushar Garg from the National Innovation Foundation.
A policy paper, ‘Women Entrepreneurs’ Empowerment’, with recommendations for the Government of Maharashtra is proposed. Work on the paper is in process. Dr. Ejaz Ghani, Dr. Sheela Bhide and Dr. Sangeeta Kale are the authors, along with Dr. Vishal Gaikwad.
